Roger Garcia is a self taught freelance illustrator based out of Edmonton Alberta who has been working in acrylics, ink and digital media professionally for over 10 years. His illustrations have been published in humour books, children's books, newspapers and educational material.
"A Yoga Jungle" a childrens book illustrated in 2013, was in The Canadian Children's Book Centre for " Best Books for Kids & Teens: Fall Edition 2013 magazine.
When Roger is not at home drawing, he can be seen facilitating cartooning workshops at various elementary schools, youth camps and local art events. He also enjoys collaborating with colleagues and non-for-profit oganizations in various personal and public art projects.
Aside from illustrating and teaching, he also organizes and participates in an annual event he founded eight years ago called “Doctors and Derrieres”. Where medical students from the U of A pose nude for local talented artists to draw and sculpt. The art pieces created are then auctioned off, with proceeds going to help an emergency health project in rural El Salvador. The funds raised from this event help over 2000 people in 30 poor rural communities.
Roger lives and works in a space for contemporary visual artists, writers, musicians, and film makers. Connecting and collaborating with many different artists in the arts community. He lives and works with his little dog Pachin and enjoys visiting his parrot, Chepito at his mothers home.
